Team coaching for project-based learning: an innovative approach

When we think of the concept of teams and coaching, we tend to imagine a sports coach guiding some sort of sports team. But in a teaching context we find it difficult to envision the same dynamic linking the teacher and the students as we do with coaches and athletes.

During the session, we will explore how teachers should lead teams when working on projects using innovative coaching techniques and approaches.

We will look at the difference between teaching and coaching and groups and teams. We will investigate what life competencies team members need to be able to use, for example creative thinking, communication, problem solving and collaborative skills and how the teacher can support their development.

Participants will learn about the unique elements of diversity and inclusion in teams. They will discover techniques and activities that will help them enhance their team competencies from the team planning process to teamwork assessment.

We will explore various coaching techniques to nurture relationships among team members and to enhance  their learning process. We will look at how to:

• define the pillars of successful teams;
• create the team vision and purpose;
• create the team values and CTR (co-creating the relationship);
• determine the team goals and measures;
• coordinate the project management phases;
• assess team members and the team as a whole.
