Last week I had the pleasure to attend Didacta Italia, Sicilia Edition 2023. This event hosted teachers, school leaders and professionals all dedicated to the future of AI (artificial intelligence) (AI). There were over 9000+ in attendance and people from all walks of life were able to attend many of 175 participating company booths. Of these companies AISLI and the British Council was two of the many to support the language areas of the event. It was also my pleasure to present at this event, with special thanks to the British Council, for lending me the booth for my Presentation “Life Skills in the Era of AI” centered on Why Human abilities should shine even brighter in the age of automation.
There were 9 teachers that took part in the presentation and many other that looked on as the presentation was given. All intrigued by the topic and interested in knowing more about VUCA and Team coaching, team and individual appreciation. The topics of finding a vision and the teams purpose were also discussed and we will look int those a little more in this blog.
Today we are going to dive a little deeper into one of the topics discussed here and that is Simon Sinek’s Golden circle. If you have some time., you should watch him talk about it in this VIDEO.
You could even show it for your class and even as teacher training with your colleagues. It is a fantastic opportunity to help you, as a teacher and your student find their vision or purpose. You can do this either for the project for the school year or as an overall vision for the class.
You first start with Why.
What is your purpose? Your cause? What do you believe in? Why are you creating this team?
You then you need to ask. How? How do you want to achieve that goal, vision, task or project. It could be as simple as How do you get the team to create a unified vision. You should look for the specific actions to make your Why become a reality.
Finally, you reach the outer circle and that is What… What impact or outcome will the team have. What do you do to get the results of Why.
This technique will help your students reflect on why the team exists, not as a mere group of people working on a project but as a team who shares the importance of working together and becomes aware of the reason why the team exists. They will create their team vision and team. They will develop their reflective and analytical skills and negotiation.
At the end of this activity, they will be able to create their team vision and team purpose statement.
